TechNYC · AI Technologist Educator volunteer · September 2025Built AI-Powered Prototype to Map Literacy Materials for LINC
As a volunteer AI Technologist Educator with TechNYC, I worked with LINC, a nonprofit focused on getting literacy materials into parents' hands, on a tool to help them share their learning resources more effectively. LINC had a large library of PDFs sitting in Google Drive and wanted a more scalable, approachable way to get the right materials to parents at the right time in their child's literacy development.
LINC came to the table with a clear problem statement, so my focus was on implementation: helping their team use Gemini as a prototyping tool. I walked them through prompting best practices and how to build and run something locally, then worked with them to build a prototype that mapped out which materials a parent should use week by week, starting with Week 1 and progressing through their child's literacy journey.
Beyond the prototype itself, I left LINC's team with a working understanding of how to prompt Gemini and prototype tools like this on their own going forward, giving a small nonprofit team a practical way to keep building on the idea without needing outside technical help.
