Co-Founded Kizua and Launched One-Handed Diaper Changing System

My wife and I co-founded Kizua to solve a universal parenting challenge: the difficulty of changing diapers in the middle of the night. Starting from nothing as a new startup, we set an ambitious design goal—to create a diaper changing system that could be operated with just one hand. This would eliminate the frustration of wrestling with flat-packed diapers that fold up on themselves, making nighttime changes faster and less stressful for exhausted parents. The biggest challenges involved both product design and manufacturing economics. We needed to engineer a solution that kept flat-packed diapers open and secure while integrating seamlessly with a changing pad cover structure. Equally important was developing a hook-and-loop fastening system that was both aesthetically pleasing and economical to mass-produce. I led the design process by sketching multiple concepts, then my wife and I collaborated on building and testing dozens of prototypes with our own children, iterating based on real-world performance and usability. After validating the design, I sourced a textile manufacturer and established a full mass production operation. We successfully launched the product in early 2020, selling through Amazon FBA and driving customer acquisition through Facebook marketing. The result was a market-ready infant care product that translated a personal pain point into a scalable consumer solution.
