Moments of impact from Zachary Kovat's career
As Director of Talent reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer, I drove hiring process and strategy across more than 40 states, overseeing three recruiting teams (Tech, Business, and Capacity) totaling 15 people. In late 2020 and early 2021, COVID pushed the company to send everyone home, and we made the call to shift from a Boston/Denver in-office hiring model to a remote-flexible, hybrid one. I was leading Compensation at the time, so I built out 8 distinct pay regions, each priced off an anchor city, to support hiring people wherever they lived rather than where our offices were. We recoded our job postings as remote and reworked our sourcing strategy around this new model. That shift opened up a much larger talent market for us, whether we were hiring executives, engineers, or marketers, and let us recruit well beyond our original hub cities. It supported the company's growth from 425 employees at the start of 2021 to 1,000 employees by the start of 2024.
