@jobdoctortessa Speaking up at work on issues that are affecting your job can be terrifying. Especially if you’re concerned that other employees might target you as a result. Here’s what I’ve learned over my years working in corporate.

About Tessa White

Tessa spent 20+ years in HR. She’s the person companies call in when they need to go public, scale fast, or build infrastructure from scratch. Then, in the middle of the pandemic, she pivoted to the other side of the desk: helping individuals navigate their careers instead of helping companies build them.

She posted a couple of videos, not really knowing what she was doing. Three days later, she had 10,000 followers. Today, she’s known as The Job Doctor to over 1 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and a 2x published author, with her second book on the way.

What we’re covering

Workplaces are moving faster than the people in them. Rapid technological advancements, particularly AI, are affecting workplace interactions. The essential skills for our future are being undermined by technology, which is subtly changing how our brains operate. As speed and digital convenience reshape our thinking, we tend to react quickly rather than pause to reflect, especially during conflicts.

Tessa calls it “swipe-left thinking”: the same reflex that makes us swipe past a dating profile in half a second is now showing up in how we handle hard conversations at work. We escalate, we shut down, or we just leave, instead of working through it.

The people who do learn to stay in the conversation, to handle ambiguity, disagreement, and change without making it personal, are the ones building careers that take off. That’s what this session is about.

What you’ll walk away with

  1. 01

A way to stay steady in hard conversations, instead of reacting.

Tessa will teach the three questions she uses to keep a hard conversation from turning into a fight: simple enough to use in your next disagreement with a manager, teammate, or client.

  2. 02

A way to talk about your own value that actually gets results.

Most raise and promotion requests sound like “I’ve been working really hard,” which, unfortunately, doesn’t move the needle. You’ll learn how to reframe your ask around impact instead, so you get what you’re asking for.

  3. 03

A framework for how to approach the 5 main stages of career growth.

The advice that got you promoted once can quietly stop working at the next level, because what’s rewarded shifts at each stage without warning. Tessa will map out those shifts so you’re ready before they cost you, not after.

“I think people have more control in the workplace than they think they have.”

Who this is for

This is for you if:

  • You’re early in your career and want to build the right habits now, not fix them later
  • You’re aiming for your next promotion and want the framework to get a ‘yes.’
  • You’re leading a team through change and want to get better at resolving the conflict that comes with it, not just managing it
  • You’re advancing in your career, but the skills that got you there aren’t getting you recognition in your new role
