I joined the Technology Organization during a period of rapid scaling, when inconsistent talent practices across teams were creating friction and engineering leaders lacked the strategic HR partnership needed to build high-performing teams in a fully remote environment. The decentralized approach meant that teams experienced wildly different onboarding experiences, talent management processes, and access to HR support, undermining our ability to scale effectively and retain top engineering talent.
To address these challenges, I restructured the HRBP team into specialized pods aligned to key technical functions, ensuring that each engineering group had dedicated, strategically-focused HR support. I established quarterly talent reviews with engineering leadership to proactively identify development opportunities and succession gaps. Recognizing the unique demands of remote work, I created a comprehensive remote-first onboarding playbook that standardized best practices across more than 50 teams, ensuring consistency while maintaining flexibility for team-specific needs.
The impact was significant and measurable. We improved engineering retention by 12% year-over-year and cut onboarding time in half—from 90 days to just 45 days—accelerating time-to-productivity for new hires. Perhaps most tellingly, engineering VPs reported 40% higher satisfaction with HR support in our annual survey, reflecting the stronger strategic partnership we had built. I partnered closely with the VP of Engineering Platform and Chief Product Officer throughout this transformation, and presented quarterly talent updates to the CTO and their leadership team of 15 engineering directors, ensuring alignment and visibility at the highest levels.
