When I joined LearnLux in June 2021, the engineering team consisted of just two engineers supporting a functional but fragile platform. The company was preparing for a Series A raise and faced mounting pressure to scale rapidly: we needed to achieve SOC 2 compliance from scratch, improve infrastructure reliability, expand the product globally, and grow the team—all with very limited resources. The stakes were high, with enterprise clients in regulated industries depending on our ability to deliver technical rigor and security at scale.
I prioritized three critical areas in my first 90 days. First, I worked closely with one of our senior engineers to document and share deployment responsibilities, eliminating a key person risk and building trust with this founding team member. This groundwork allowed us to delegate deployment processes to new hires as the team grew, freeing up senior talent for higher-value work. Second, I built a repeatable engineering hiring process from the ground up and successfully recruited and hired a new engineer within my first three months—without the support of a people ops team. Third, I partnered with cross-functional leaders to align the team for global expansion, preparing us to launch our first international client application on schedule.
These early wins set the stage for sustained growth and impact. I grew the engineering, product, and design (EPD) team from 2 senior engineers to a lean, high-performing team of 7 that punched well above its weight class. We achieved SOC 2 Type I and Type II compliance with clean slate reports, which lifted our provisional status with a Fortune 500 bank—our largest customer—and unlocked new RFPs and opportunities in financial services, commercial airline, tech, and retail/manufacturing sectors. We expanded the platform from US-only English to a multi-lingual product supporting enterprise workforces in over 30 countries, enabling us to close deals with global tech companies and organizations serving large numbers of Spanish-speaking employees. Behind the scenes, we improved upon a challenging single-tenant architecture to reduce operational overhead while meeting and exceeding compliance commitments and contractual SLAs. This work directly contributed to the company's Series A raise in October 2022 and positioned LearnLux to serve enterprise behemoths in regulated industries with the technical rigor of a much larger organization.
