Our company's infrastructure had grown into a tangled web of third-party services requiring dual—sometimes triple—data entry just to keep systems synchronized, creating a major bottleneck for scaling to meet member needs. I was tasked with understanding the full landscape of business systems and processes, then architecting a solution that would position the company for sustainable growth.
I designed a federated GraphQL layer to unify data access across disparate services, selected PostgreSQL to strengthen data integrity, and led a phased migration to AWS that allowed us to decommission the legacy dual-entry system incrementally, service by service. Alongside the technical migration, I evaluated and improved our portfolio of third-party services, cutting ties with vendors that no longer served our needs and adopting a more modern, cohesive technology stack.
The results were significant: since decommissioning the dual-entry system, data sync errors dropped by 90%, member onboarding time shrank from 2 weeks to just 3 days, third-party service costs fell by 30%, and system uptime improved to 99.9%. This transformation not only eliminated a persistent operational headache but also gave the company the scalable foundation it needed to grow its member base efficiently.
